Brendan Riley

Brendan was part of the first IB class at Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School. As an IB Diploma student, he graduated top of his class, receiving the Governor General's medal and the St. FX Presidential Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates the qualities and values honoured by St. FX - notably leadership and dedication in service to others as well as academic achievement. In his first year at St. FX where he continued his studies, he finished as the top ranked student in the faculty of Arts. While in High School Brendan studied internationally, first in Spain, then at the conclusion of his grade 12 year, he studied in Germany. Brendan continues to excel in languages - fluent in English, French, Spanish, German and in April 2011 he travelled to University of Changzhou, in China, where he studied Mandarin and Business.

Brendan is also very involved in the University community as President of the Oxfam Campus group where he worked to raise awareness of poverty issues by organizing hunger banquets, taking part and organizing events and activities for World Food Day, World Water Day, World Women's Day, and the 101 Letter Writing Campaign. In December 2010 Brendan was involved in the St. FX Immersion Service Learning Project, which took him to Guatemala where he worked with the local school aged children in the village of Escuela Neuva Esperanza. He is also involved as an executive member of the shinerama campaign at St.FX which raises money annually for cystic fibrosis.

Brendan is currently finished his third year of studies at St.FX and has just accepted an internship in the German Foreign Affairs department in Berlin, Germany.
